As it's the 27th anniversary of the Montreal massacre, we remember the 14 young women
who died at Polytechnique in Montreal and reflect on what has happened since that fateful day December
6, 1989. The families of the victims banded together with more than 300 organizations in the Coalition for
Gun Control and succeeded in strengthening our laws. The results were tangible a significant decline in
murders of women with guns. But over the last 10 years our laws have been eroded putting the safety of
women and children at risk. And in spite of horrific cases there has been little focus on firearms in
strategies to combat violence against women.
More than ever we need a strong and united call for stronger gun laws.
